Gezhma is hopeful that this will be the new edge of their land – though he’s very uncomfortable outside the forest, here in the plains between Heaton and the river. As the new army arrives, on Hal’s recommendation, only enough are moved into camp where they might be seen by the Sandugan to keep them from getting brazen enough to attempt to cross the river in a full assault. All the others are held back over a mile behind where they can amass a great force out of sight of everyone. Also, coming with the troops are…families? Children? People willing to risk their lives to get the free land from the king, blacksmiths, leather-crafters, loggers, farmers, merchants. Hal stops some of them in the road and tells them to turn back, very militarily, harshly, cruelly. The farmer informs Hal that it is by the king’s decree, but Hal turns him back anyhow and many others with him. They are both Destrucitors and Chyla has a sick fascination with strucotenancy (the act of reaching into others without their permission – quite illegal). They are introduced to Gasdomond (with Hal present). Gasdomond welcomes them in, but Hal Fithlle? keeps his distance. After introductions, Gasdomond asks what they bring to the table. Erlin answers the question by saying rather than telling him, he’d like to show him and asks that all possible troops be gathered to one place where he can put on a show. Hal gives the engineers a hard time because he hates ‘magic’. He’s insulting toward them, and offends them. Insert here how a conversation about where Hal came from and how he believes the town of Heaton got its name “Heat On, Heaton, get it?” One of the engineers (Chyla at first impulse) humiliates him as an ignorant buffoon, telling him it was originally meant to be ‘Heataen’, but because of some ignorant person (maybe Chyla knows the whole story? Maybe its worth telling, who the ignorant person is that screwed up the spelling of the town name?) the word was misspelled. Cracks a joke with Erlin about how having it burnt to the ground made it REALLY heat-on. Hal punches her out. Gasdomond has to ask him to leave. The Destrucitors tell Gasdomond that they have been told to send prisoners back to the castle to be ‘mind-burgled’ by Azoth – but that they mustn’t be in bad condition when they arrive. They will be kept as trophys and possible prisoners to trade with by royal decree. Before leaving Gasdomond’s tent they also tell him that they saw troops turning away civilians – and then tells Gasdomond that it is by the king’s order that they be permitted to set up camp. They show Gasdomond the king’s decree. Veritane mostly sits this one out. warns him that speaking thusly is tantamount to treason, and asks if he would like to restate his sentence, because obviously Gasdomond had misheard him. Slower groups falliBack behind the hillside there is a great meeting called. Two thousand troops (?) have assembled in one spot to see the strucity engineers. General Gasdomond introduces them, telling the audience about what they’re about to see being done (and thereby starting the process convincing them that it’s possible). Erlin and Chyla (both virtual hermits, both VERY nervous – suffering stage fright) begin with sleight of hand tricks, putting on a show that requires no strucity engineering, announcing each trick beforehand so that when they say it will happen, it does – thereby convincing the troops. Then they start introducing tiny bits of strucity manipulation (what engine are they using?), levitation (done with strings attached, so that even if the audience doesn’t believe it can happen anyhow – but they do believe and so the strings aren’t necessary) and escalating it – disappearing acts, and finally real, honest-to-goodness teleportation. Then, when the audience is in the palm of his hands, Erlin asks for volunteers to be puppeted. This is what he will do for them during the fight – he will look through their eyes and, when opportunity is maximized or most needed, he will use telekenisis through the man to buffet his opponent off guard. He will tear at their skin and cause minor wounds to open. He will blind them, one at a time, working through the soldier. He will buffet them, strike them as a blow on the cheek or to the nose. He will bat their swords aside, pull at their shields, knock their elbows and otherwise complicate their combat. In the meantime, Hogath will reach through the soldier and into the enemy, forcing them to take actions they did not intend – droppSee, smell, noises, cold or hot, rain or dry, humidity, affectsInuries, illness or disease? Gezhma hates it, but argues that they need to take the ground as a sign to the humans that they are not invulnerable and as a way of keeping the humans from amassing a huge army on this side of the river. If they can hold them at the bridge, they limit their ability to advance. Though the fellow leader agrees, he points out that the Zhandugheen are on unfamiliar ground, not used to fighting out in the open like the humans are, and that some of the humans have shown themselves to be expert fighters one-on-one and if given the chance, the Zhandugheen frankly are running a great risk to try and stand up to them in open combat on the plains. They need places to hide, to leap from, to climb. While they are still talking, there’s a shout from outside. The humans don’t appear to be losing a man, and the Zhandugheen army appears to be fighting like drunken men – dropping their swords, tripping and stumbling, clumsily fighting and clumsily dying. It is in short order that the humans are able to get across the river and set up a defensive barrier while more pour across, spreading out along the shore. Gezhma’s advisor he was just arguing with turns out to be right. The Zhandugheen army is no match in open combat, and the Zhandugheen losses quickly become extreme. As the Zhandugheen central camp begins to be overwhelmed, Gezhma declares a retreat and the Zhandugheen flee for their lives routed, running across tSee, smell, noises, cold or hot, rain or dry, humidity, affectsInuries, illness or disease? (It is not known that the Destrucitors are capable of communicating with the conlegium where there are those who are experts on speaking Sandugan – a specialty of the Construcitors is being able to communicate with all life, and the basic form of this is learning many different languages.) One of them is Zhenik. He sees her recognize him, and her face shows her love – but he quickly shakes his head and says in Sandugan, “No! Do not recognize me!” She translates for them, tied up inside with fear, hiding that this Sandugan man is her friend. When they cannot get good information out of the Sandugan they begin beating them. Mya immediately grabs the soldier who has her thrown out. She is pulled from the room, but attacks the door, kicking and pounding on it to no avail. Kyle comes up from behind her and asks what’s going on. She turns to him and pleads for help. Kyle immediately commands that the door be opened and interrupts the beating. The soldier beating them goes to Hal Fithlle?, and Hal comes in. Hal asks what the hell is going on – points out that this is an interrogation of the enemy, and that no mercy is to be shown. He starts trying to explain to Mya, but she argues back, using perfect logic to rebut him. Hal gets more and more aggitated until he and Mya are screaming at eachother. To prove that he is in control here he turns and runs one of the Zhandugheen through. Moving to the next, Mya leaps in the way. Hal hits her, knocks her down, but she springs back to her feet. He hits her again, but again she springs back up. He grabs her by the shirt and begins punching her in the face, over and over again until suddenly Kyle catches his hand. Hal turns on him and Kyle stands at attention – until the blow knocks his lights out. Hal curses and turns back to the prisoners, but there is Mya standing (barely) between him and them. It’s legs are also hairy, like a buffalo, only much shorter, coarse hair. There is a loin cloth around it’s waist, a bandolier hanging from its shoulder and diagonally down to its waist, and it holds a long, sturdy looking staff in its hand.
