It wasn't my idea. It was Kezheni's!” Kezheni starts with a jump. “Mine?” “Yes! It's one thing not to be able to bear to watch them murdered in cold blood – it is entirely another thing to think about being responsible for them. She quickly pawns them off on KezTerrified in captivity – Kezhenie offers herself to Gezhma in eSee, smell, noises, cold or hot, rain or dry, humidity, affectsAdrianna (very Native American features) and her children are taken to Kezhenie’s (Painted, horns) and Gezhma sizes up the place. Feeling a bit resentful, he is being grumpy, getting drawn into this and given responsibility he didn’t want or ask for. He goes and recruits two other men, Ulgwa (young man) and Izh-Ta, to come help him make Kezhenie’s into a prison, but by the time he gets back, he finds that Kezhenie has done the unthinkable, she’s put Adrianna in her own bed and is making comfortable arrangements for the children. Gezhma begins yelling at her. “What do you think you’re doing? They’re prisoners, not guests! They sleep on the ground, not in a bed.” Mya is standing right next to Kezhenie, holding a soft leather dress. Gezhma rips it out of Mya’s hands and throws it to the ground. “They do not get our clothing! They live in chains!” Mya (12) shrinks away, running to her mother who is holding Roland. Mya is half protective, half seeking protection. Lain (10) moves quickly to crouch beside her head. Asgreth (9 girl) freezes at the foot of the bed. Denelle (7) begins crying and crawls onto the bed up behind Adrianna. Yenna (4) begins crying and huddles into Mya since her mother is burned so badly. Gezhma snaps at Ulgwa, “Get those two,” pointing at Asgreth and Yenna and tells Izh-Ta, “And you those two,” pointing at Mya and Lain, “and bind them, hand and foot!” As he says this he is already stepping toward the bed to grab Denelle and Roland. Kezhenie seizes his hand and commands the other two, “Stop!” They pause, but Gezhma shouts with rage, “I said grab them, NOW!” He shoves Kezhenie aside and reaches across the bed for Denelle. Ulgwa grabs Asgreth, who starts like she’s been stung by a bee, and drags her with him to grab Yenna who is holding onto Mya who is holding her back. Asgreth still silent, eyes bugging out huge. Yenna screams as she is grabbed. Izh-Ta scoots behind Kezhenie and grabs Mya and Lain by the arms. Lain seizes the bed and screams. Mya shouts, “Mama!” Adrianna, begs “No no no, don’t take them! No! Please!” Ulgwa is trying to pull Yenna (4) away from Mya, who is being pulled away from Yenna by Izh-Ta, but Yenna is holding on for dear life, crying desperately. Kezhenie grabs Gezhma’s arm, shouting over the din, “No! They’re children!” Gezhma thrusts her backward hard against the wall and then reaches for the baby again. Ulgwa gets Yenna away from Mya and begins dragging the girls toward the door. Izh-Ta is still trying to get Lain to let go of the bed (who is no longer crying, only holding on resolutely, eyes squinted, teeth gritted) without letting Mya go, but is losing the struggle. His teeth are gritted, and his fingers squeeze down with anger/disgust. As Gezhma reaches for Roland (who is crying so hard his voice has gone completely) Mya grabs his arm. Gezhma attempts to shake her off, but poised as he is, halfway over the bed, one arm pulled back, gives Kezhenie an opportunity to slip between him and the bed. She slides her left hand around to his back, her right hand around behind his neck, and kisses him. For a moment his eyes bug open in shock, and then he stands up briskly. Kezhenie lets him go, but stays where she is sitting on the bed, looking up at him fearfully, expectantly. Ulgwa has Asgreth and Yenna nearly out the door when Gezhma shouts, “Stop. Let them go.” Yenna and Asgreth barrel to their poor mother (who is in agony from the burns, but doesn’t even notice it with the depth of concern she has for her kids). Gezhma tells Izh-Ta, “You too. Let them go.” Izh-Ta pushes them roughly away. He says to Kezhenie loudly, but not harshly, “Come outside and speak with me.” He tells Ulgwa, “You stand guard at the door and make sure they behave. Izh-Ta, you can go home.” Ulgwa stands at the door (inside the room). Izh-Ta nods. Kezhenie picks up the leather dress Gezhma had thrown to the floor, puts it gently back into Mya’s hands and then follows Gezhma out the door. Mya runs to her mother, sees that she’s in immense pain and pulls the little ones off of her, speaks softly, encouragingly to them. Outside, Kezhenie tells Gezhma that she will release Zhenik and tie to him, so long as he will keep his nose out of it. He says that he’s under orders to ensure the humans are secured, and Kezhenie says that’s fine, only he must let her do all the securing and he can give his approval. Gezhma accepts the deal, doSee, smell, noises, cold or hot, rain or dry, humidity, affects (Painted, horns) Kezhenie walks from there straight to Zhenik and tells him that she is no longer able to pursue a love interest with him. As she comes up on the door, she can hear Mya calling out to her mama in a panic. Throwing the door open, she sees Adrianna in a convulsion of some sort. Mya is holding her hand, tears streaming down her face, calling out desperately to her mother, Ulgwa simply standing there, eyes bugged open doing nothing. (Denelle 7 is holding Roland 1, Asgreth 9 is standing at the foot of the bed, staring at the blankets at her mother’s feet, Lain 10 is sitting on the floor rocking and Yenna 4 is hiding behind Mya.) Kezhenie tells him to run quickly and get some bandages from the camp storehouse and some herbs. He just stands there and stares. Kezhenie catches his face in her hands, shouts his name until he looks at her and then commands him to go get the bandages and herbs from the storehouse. He goes quickly. She turns and runs to the bed, reaching up to grab ahold of a small crystal necklace (it’s a healing energy/focus strucity form talisman) and rubbing it to begin focusing. (Kezhenie is a healer.) The warmth of her fingers rubbing creates enough energy to twist into greater heat, which she twists into still greater heat as she reaches out to touch Adrianna. Mya gets out of the way (this is the Zhandugheen who has obviously been helping them) and helps to get the other children settled. Kezhenie touches Adrianna, eyes closed, humming softly, comfortingly to herself, and then extends just a little, enough to find out how bad the damage is. It’s bad – very bad. The burns are severe. Her nervous system is overloaded, and Kezhenie believes this is why she’s having spasms. Treading carefully between 1) getting too tied into Adrianna and suffering more pain than she can bear and still be able to stay focused and 2) not getting tied in enough to honestly be able to assess the damage, find the problem and be able to help – she summons more energy (precious energy) from the crystal and works to steady Adrianna’s heartbeat, breathing and to numb some of the worst damaged spots. The pain is intense, but she is able to keep far enough from it to calm her patient, and Adrianna begins to settle, coughing and cringing but no longer in a seizure. Kezhenie opens up her pain receptors to soak some of the pain herself – not by lessening the pain (not yet) but by showing Adrianna that she is not alone in it. Kezhenie opens her eyes just a squint, and sees that Adrianna is staring at her in wonder. This makes Kezhenie smile and nod encouragingly, and Adrianna is able to lie back and relax just a little. She can feel the tie to Kezhenie, and with the sharing of consciousness, is able to plainly see that Kezhenie is there to help. The door opens and Ulgwa comes in with bandages and herbs. Kezhenie turns to Mya and motions her over, takes her hand and puts it in her mother’s. She says something Mya doesn’t understand, (“Here, you be her comfort for awhile. I must go make a philtrum to heal her.”) and then goes to Ulgwa, thanking him for the supplies and asks him to stay quietly and inconspicuously in the corner, watching as Gezhma has said, but to do nothing. He is to be invisible, like the walls or floor. (He has some internal mockery of this, “Walls are pretty visible,” or something like that.) She takes the supplies and hurries out the door to goChildren try to deal with captivity, Ulgwa learns compassion foSee, smell, noises, cold or hot, rain or dry, humidity, affects (Painted, horns) In here somewhere, remember this from ‘Auraleus Death’ – “Mya had to step in and start promising pony rides and a trip to the trading post to keep everyone in line.” Also, might mention how close the kids were to Zevialon, or at least how close Adrianna was. Never really clarified how close of a friend he was, only that he was a close friend of Adrianna and Auraleus. Mya, glancing suspiciously at Ulgwa, checks on her mom who is lying mostly still, eyes closed. It is really right here that Mya’s brain kicks in, she realizes that she is the oldest and that there is no mother of father to help, and takes over the role of mother. Roland has begun to fuss, and Mya takes him from Denelle, telling her it’s ok, putting her pinky in the little one’s mouth and shushing him gently. She turns to Lain and calls to him softly. He’s still rocking and humming tunelessly, and Mya has to call his name several times to get his attention. He finally looks up, his cheeks pale white, eyes bloodshot, and blinks rapidly. Mya asks him if he’d like to play a game. Lain doesn’t respond, but Yenna comes around from behind her and says she’d like to play a game. At that, Denelle says she wants to play too. Mya says she knows a really fun game, a new game, and says only people who really want to have fun can play. This gets Denelle and Yenna completely hooked, and they both says they really want to have fun. Denelle says she wants to have fun more than Yenna does and throws her a daring look. Yenna looks crestfallen, but Mya says, “Good! You both want to have a lot of fun. We’re going to play the…the ‘Guess Who I Am’ game. Wanna know how to play?” Denelle nods, Yenna nods. She asks Lain, “How about you? Wanna play?” Lain has gone back to his rocking and doesn’t answer. Mya, her finger still in her little brother’s mouth, says, “Come on then. Let’s see if Asgreth maybe wants to play.” Mya walks over to her and touches her shoulder, opening her mouth to ask if she wants to play, but the little girl screams, looking at her wildly, pulling away. This makes Yenna begin to cry. Mya says, “Oh, ok. Yenna, it’s ok. We’re going to play without her. It’s ok Asgreth. You come play later, whenever you want to.” She turns to Lain and says, “You too, Lainy. Come whenever you want to.” Sitting down by the foot of the bed she says, “Ok, we sit in a circle, k?” The other girls sit with her, Yenna fighting tears, her eyes watery, lower lip bulging out, chin trembling. “Now, here’s how we play. I’m going to say things about the person you’re supposed to guess like I’m that person, and when you think you know who I’m talking about, you say, ‘My guess!’ Whoever guesses first gets to think up the next person.” Denelle says, “And the loser has to kiss the winner on the forehead?” Mya shakes her head. “Nope, but they do get to be next. They can try and pick someone hard. Ok, here goes. I’m tall.” Denelle says, “You are not.” Mya replies, “No no, we’re playing the game now, and the person I am talking about, as if I’m the person, is a tall person.” “Then why don’t you just say the person is a tall person?” Mya feels her anxiety coming back upon her. “Because that’s not how the game is played, that’s why. I told you the rules.” Denelle frowns. “Well, they’re stupid rules.” Mya takes a deep breath and then says, “I have a big nose.” Denelle says, “No you don’t.” Mya ignores her. “I wear a big red hat with a feather in it.” “No you don’t.” Yenna’s eyes suddenly brighten. “You’re Langly Lawry!” Mya says, “Yes I am! Very good Yenna, your turn.” Denelle says, “That’s not fair! I didn’t get a guess.” Mya ignores her. “Go ahead Yenna, it’s your turn.” Denelle shouts, “No! It’s not! I didn’t get a guess!” Yenna begins to cry again and Roland begins to cry too. That makes Mya’s eyes tear up and she begins to cry too as she says, “Denny, I need your help. You’re big enough to help, aren’t you?” Denelle gets up, beet red. “I hate your stupid game! You can play without me. I’m going to go make my own game and you can’t play!” Mya says, “Fine! Go on then. Go play your own game, but quit yelling. You’re scaring the others.” Denelle looks down at Yenna, her eyes welling up with tears and says, “I…I’m sorry.” She walks over to the bed and lays her head on the blanket, crying. Mya lets her go and says to Yenna, “We can do this, Yenna. You’re turn. I was Langly Lawry. You’re turn now.” Yenna keeps crying and slides over to Mya, lays her head on her lap and cries. Mya, a deep, penetrating sense of despair washing over her, pets her sister’s hair and cries with her while Roland’s cries get worse. Ulgwa is watching all of this and getting sicker and sicker to his stomach. His soul can hardly bear it. His hatred is thick for the humans, but this much suffering of children is almost unbearable.Kezhenie, exhausted from being up all night making philtrums, fSee, smell, noises, cold or hot, rain or dry, humidity, affects (Painted, horns) Kezhenie returns very early the next morning (barely past first light), exhausted. She finds the children are all asleep, Mya with Roland and Yenna, Asgreth against one wall, Lain against another and Denelle asleep knees on the floor, head on the bed. Ulgwa’s head snaps up – he too was asleep. Kezhenie puts her finger on her lips to signal quiet, and goes to check on Adrianna. Adrianna is nearly unresponsive. Her breathing is shallow, her heartbeat incredibly faint and her skin (where she’s not burnt) cool to the touch. Kezhenie realizes that she is dying. Quickly she goes to Ulgwa and explains that the children must leave the room, gently – but it must happen quickly. She needs his help. He gets up and heads toward Lain, but Kezhenie stops him. “No no, wait here. Let me wake up the eldest first – see if she will help.” Hurrying over to Mya, Kezhenie kneels down next to her, pats her hand. Mya opens her bloodshot, sleepy eyes, her bearings lost. She pulls Roland close to her, sees Kezhenie and shrinks away. Kezhenie points at the door. “You must leave with Ulgwa – quickly now child. Help me get the other children out.” Mya looks around panicked for a moment, and Roland begins to cry. This wakes up Yenna who starts crying, and then Denelle sits up, snapping, “Quit crying! STO-op!” before bursting into tears herself. Lain wakes up, flailing as if falling before getting his bearings, and immediately curls up and begins rocking. Asgreth opens her eyes, shocked but vacant, and doesn’t move. Kezhenie points at the door. “Little girl, you must go now.” Mya pulls Yenna close and looks fearfully at the door. Kezhenie gets up and walks quickly to the door, pointing out it, then quickly at the children individually, and then back out the door. “Go with Ulgwa – now. Go go.” She’s trying to keep the anxiety out of her voice, but the children are incredibly slow, responding with doubt, not helpful. She raises her voice and commands, “Out! Now!” Mya responds by shrinking away in fear, the crying of the children not stirring Adrianna at all. Kezhenie says to Ulgwa, “Ok, take the boy and the girl on the bed.” With that she walks over to Asgreth and takes her by the hand – and she screams as though she’s being cut open, not moving, her eyes bugged out. She screams for all she’s worth with terror, and Kezhenie lets her go. Asgreth’s mouth shuts and she immediately goes catatonic again. Things are getting worse though with the children. Ulgwa grabs Lain in one hand, who begins crying out to Mya, who is bewildered and not sure what to do, and grabs a screaming Denelle in the other. Kezhenie knows time is limited, but this noise is the very thing she was working to avoid. She must be able to retain focus, or this woman is going to die, and soon. Kezhenie takes a deep breath and grabs Asgreth again, who, like a switch has been thrown, begins screaming in terror. She grabs Yenna with the other hand, and suddenly finds Mya in her face, eyes terrified, but one hand on her hip, defiant, legs spread shoulder width. Kezhenie takes Yenna’s hand and offers it to Mya, who is a little taken aback, but takes her sisters hand (Roland screaming his head off). Kezhenie points firmly at the door, and when Mya looks but doesn’t move, she stomps her foot. Ulgwa walks through the door with a kicking, screaming Lain. Asgreth is still screaming, but Mya turns and walks toward the door with a glance at her mother. Yenna wraps around her big sister and huddles her head, making walking awkward for Mya, but they go through the door. Kezhenie pulls a not really defiant, but not helpful Asgreth behind her to the door, and then shouts to Ulgwa, “Take her from me. Get them somewhere where I can’t hear them, and they can’t hear me. I need to focus.” Ulgwa says with pure exhasperation, “Where?!” Kezhenie says, “You fig\nProcess Group PGID: 215544"
