He is convinced (by her) that she is going to be Zhanduma someday and dreams of being Zhandupa.. He has earned her semi-affections by being willing to be her abject servant, which she simply adores aHavayzha notices one day that Gezhma is taking notice of her. She's thrilled to death, and speaks with Kezheni about it, who is horrified, because she knows how strong Zhaveth's feelings for her are. She shares with Havayzha some nugget of wisdom that will be remembered at the destruction of Heaton – the seed that grows into the 'save-the-children' tree. Havayzha, led by her instincts and social laws, pays heed to the advice given by Kezheni, but reluctantly. When Gezhma makes some more direct yet still mild advances, Havayzha cannot help but show how flattered she is, though she turns away from him. Zhaveth is utterly clueless, it being beyond imagining that Havayzha would ever leave him though she has not yet taken the final step of marriaNot long before the destruction of Heaton, Gezhma makes his most daring move toward Havayzha yet, acting in a way that is usually reserved for Zhangheen that are already in a relationship. Havayzha is obviously flattered by the advance, though she again turns him away, and Gezhma goes home with joy in his heart, almost considering inviting poor boot-licking Zhaveth into the circle and taking his fiance by force, though it would be viewed as vile in the eyes of all the faction (because there is already a formed, faction accepted bond between Zhaveth and Havayzha.) Zhaveth is completely oblivious to all that is going on, hHavayzha is at the battle of Heaton, terrified and sick to her stomach. Kezheni is with her. Because Kezheni and Havayzha have been noted as being in the frequent company of the Zhanduma, and because Gezhma has become very interested in Havayzha, he requests that they join him for the destruction of the human town, witness to his prowess. However, when the human woman and her children come out, Kezheni sees that Gezhma is about to kill them and immediately grabs his arm. He pushes her away, but Kezheni turns to Havayzha and begs her to stop him. Havayzha is also horrified and sickened by the thought of the murder, because, though she is morally off compass, she's not completely out of touch (and remembers something Kezheni has said to her about the value of compassion). Havayzha, breaking from powerful instinctual and social norms, breaks from her relationship with Zhaveth and offers to bind herself to Gezhma if only he will suffer the woman and her children to live. Gezhma pounces on the opportunity. Havayzha is both delighted and horrified, and Kezheni is both glad and disgusted. Gezhma feels like the victHavayzha, however, quickly enough regrets her decision. After getting back to camp, and discussing with the zhandupoy and zhanduma what is to happen to the humans, she finds that, because she is the one who asked for them to be spared, she gets to keep them. No, no, no, no no no nonono. Wait just one moment! ME?” “You wanted them alive, alive they are, and in your care.” “Wait! It wasn't my idea. It was Kezheni's!” Kezheni starts with a jump. “Mine?” “Yes! It's one thing not to be able to bear to watch them murdered in cold blood – it is entirely another thing to think about being responsible for them. They're both not interested in the affairs of the faction, never have been really, find solace in each other's company. Kezhenie is rather quiet and meek, keeps to herself, is not impressed by massive displays of physical bravado, though she definitely on the 'most wanted' list of the males. Zhenik, however, is kinda smallish, scrawny, and so Kezhenie is concerned that one of the bigger men, especially Gezhma, since she knows he's hot to trot for her, will find a reason to call him into the circle and remove him from the playing field (since the circle isn't resolved only for resolving love conflicts) in order to have a better chance at winning her. Since she is a seriously hot item because of her ability to manipulate strucity combined with her 'child-bearing' hips, and since even being united with Zhenik doesn't mean he can't be removed from the playing field, she hasn't committed to him yet. (Maybe Gezhma has directly threatened to kill any man she shows an interest in – maybe not to her, but she overheard it?) So, their romance is 'secret' – though that's simply not true, everybody knows about their secret romance, but for theFuneral Pyre. Heaton sees it. They were declined, no help coming, too dangerous (Yomyalo led by Gloozhe and Trinzholan led by Feelgway). Message the same from both of them; messing with the humans will mean war. Their advice is leave it alone. Do nothing. (may be of plot line value elsewhere as these refusing factions are either pulled into the war or annihilated – do something with this. The Trinzholan are very worried about the possibility of war – want to find someone to seek a treaty with, not go intoMatt is recruiting his delegation, and is talking with Yalthim who was the guy delivering firewood to Pyle Outpost the night of the slaughter. He's chosen Yalthim as someone to approach specifically because he's never really been close to Hal, has kept his distance from the man. “You always seemed to steer clear of him.” Matt's telling him about the other men he's already gathered, and that they're wives are coming too, and asks Yalthim if he'll join them. Yalthim is taken aback. No, he's not coming, it's madness. “What? Go against Hal? Are you mad? You don't know him if you've even thinking of going against him. I used to live in Murgoran Flow, years ago, when Hal was still in the guard, and you may not know this, but he was sort of famous. I didn't know him at the time, just knew of him, and he was one scary son of a b, well known for producing the best soldiers that could be produced, the most deadly, and for never, EVER losing a fight. There were three of his guards, when he first got there, that just – disappeared. Went AWOL, they said, but the more time went by, the more everyone knew just how unwilling to lose a fight Hal was, how deadly he was, and then the rumors were saying not that they'd gone AWOL, but that they'd been 'made to disappear'. You don't go against men like that. Did you ever wonder why I 'steer clear of him' as you said? Cause he's plain dangerous, and I don't mind if he knows I said it. You don't go against him, you get on his good side, and staHal comes from the lodge after hearing about Matt's delegation and knocks on his door. At first, he's very kind and understanding – addresses the issue at face value and presents all the logic as to why to just let it all go, leave things as they are. (The guard already knows, the decision is supported by Igthis who's in charge of the town, best not to go over the head of people who are legally permitted to carry weapons, best to leave sleeping dogs lie. Your wife's in a state, you don't want to leave her. It's not your responsibility.) Matt says that the sandugan are going to come in force, we killed their women and children. Hal says to let them come. Hal tells him that Igthis has already reported to his superior officer, and they know. Matt objects, but when Hal responds with building anger that Matt should have been there, that if it had been Matt that was killed, they'd have done the same for him as they did for Auraleus, Matt sees that this could get scary, especially considering the conversation he had with Yalthim earlier that day. Matt shows nothing but obeiasence by the end of the conversation, and when Hal is leaving, apparently content with the end result (which he is, indeed) Matt hopes he believed it all, and decides that those people who have already agreed will have to be enougSee, smell, noises, cold or hot, rain or dry, humidity, affectsEvening 6/1/1 – (Painted, horns) Gezhma is one of the 4 other scouts return, also having met up in the woods (Ghenerzheth Forest). Hal immediately notices the smell of smoke. He runs downstairs shouting, wake up Peter who comes running with him. Hal turns back, in his hazy mind not remembering if someone else is upstairs. Peter hits the front door hard as he opens it, causing him to tumble through, face first into the burning tar covered hay that is strewn in front of the front door. Screaming he leaps to his feet, utterly consumed in flames. Staggers back inside, bumping into tables and chairs, falls. Hal sees that he’s a dead man and quickly grabs bow and arrows, shoots his friend to end his pain quickly. Pete, not know what’s going on, screams like hell and runs outside, through the flames again. Smoke building up quickly. Hal goes to basement pantry, attempts to exit through side, but finds that it is smoldering – on fire above. Draws the conclusion that they are under siege. Quickly runs upstairs, breaks hole in roof. Smoke is thick and black by this time. Crawls out on top and sees the whole town is on fire – and Pete’s body littered with arrows. Looks to the tiny barracks, and sees that it is engulfed in a huge ball of flame. Looks to see if he can find where the attackers are at, can’t see any until woman with a screaming child comes out in a blanket and is instantly filled with arrows like a pin cushion. (Painted, horns) The Zhandugheen are camouflaged, and only visible moving their bows. Not necessary that we use it, if we can’t freakin’ remember to use it regularly…) and Hal hitches a ride. Some Zhandugheen notice the fleeing horses, but they are not pursued. Hal looking over his shoulder sees that the whole village is on fire, makes a run for the nearest army post. Can you mention in here that the bridge he must cross west of Heaton is more ancient than the country itself. (Built by the crash survivors, what’s it made of? Hint at sci-fi, but don’t permit the loss of fantasy.) (Post is in Pyle Outpost – takes the Shallow Valley Road, though it’s a very dangerous ride – rumored to be haunted but is actually filled with Insectikin. There are two parts here – one written before the creation of Havayzha, and one after. Need to meld them into one. (See 'Part 2' belowHe asks, ‘What is this?’ Gezhma tells him they can be used as a bargaining chip. Ooluōzh draws his weapon, but Kezhenie quickly steps between him and the children. Ooluōzh instantly gets it and asks Gezhma just exactly what he’s thinking, but sheathes his blade. Says he will have to speak with Tathik, matriarch, and get agreement if they are to be spared, sends Gezhma to summon her since he is willing to spare them. Gezhma got Tathik, so he's mentioned the bargaining chip idea to make the humans stop and reconsider their course of action. Tathik sees the state of the mother and tells Kezhenie that they should be killed, but explains how she understands the desire for mercy, commending Kezhenie. While she’s talking about the benefits of mercy, Ooluōzh points out the brutality of the humans, that they must be taught a lesson and that mercy can be out of place. This elicits a rebuttal from Tathik. An argument ensues between them, Ooluōzh arguing in favor of the response of the fist, Tathik arguing in favor of mercy. Ooluōzh takes a cheap shot regarding the weakness of women (ruling with their feelings, not logic) which elicits a furious rebuttal from Tathik about how tough women are – just look at the Chodzhuldhem – and how pathetic men are – just look at the Hulwaya. Tathik sets up Oolouzh to defeat her logic, “You're right Ooluozh, I don't see Gezhma's point about how this woman and her children would make a good bargaining chip.” Ooluozh responds with “I agree and to let a woman and children survive, just on the principal of the thing when they mercilessly destroyued our women and children would betray justice.” Tathik says, “I'm glad we were able to come to an agreement that this is a woman and her children. Well, I guess that means they're not really anything you need to trifle yourself with, then. Kezhenie, since you've taken them under your wing, your house shall be their prison.” Ooluozh and Gezhme sort of stare at each other, not sure what just happened. Ooluozh, thinking it may be that he's been set up, commands Gezhma to go after them and be sure they're locked in prison properly. Tathik walks away mumbling, “Men!
