Before he goes, Evan gives him a communicator thingy and asks him to send them charts and graphs on the Jeslin domes and cities. Golth runs to save Kaeli. While inside, he is able to send the info to Evan, but the Jeslin are coming. He gets to Kaeli, they confess their love for one another, making Golth as happy as happy can be. The situation is hopeless though, no way out and the Jeslin will be through in moments. Golth and Kaeli set the gun to overload at the bacterial core, intending only to kill themselves before the Jeslin can get to them. The explosion triggers a chain reaction, igniting all of the reactive stuff (bacteria themselves, their waste product, not sure – figure this out) and it blows the whole dome to pieces. Praxedis is broken free and runs for his life as the men who freed him die. Bleeding to death, he remembers the directions given to him (much earlier) to get to the bacterial production core and is able to overload one of the Jeslin weapons, set to blow the whole city to smithereens. Evan back at home is striving to teleport Praxedis out of the city, knocks the roiling pot – the marker for the teleport device – into the lake on accident (he’s terribly accident prone). Praxedis reports that the weapon is set to explode in 10 seconds, 9, 8, etc. A Jeslin coming down the hall to kill him, hears the message and sprints away, trying to get out, knowing what is about to happen. The Jeslin, who have intercepted the message, are trying to flee the city. The confusion is vast and city wide. The slaves see all the Jeslin (who have been communicated with via their city-wide com system) sprinting for the exits, and many slaves try to escape as well. Evan in a desperate attempt to complete the spell – a spell that was far more powerful than he should have been casting in the first place – finishes the invocation, pouring all of his life force into it. Kyle has come to speak with him, finds him in a deep, trembling trance, and begins shaking him, trying to bring him up out of it. Kaeli finishes her viewing and breaks free from Bynun, who opens his eyes to stare into the face of his worst enemy. Kyle is startled by a look of bestial fury he has never seen on a human face, and steps back, suddenly unsure of himself. Bynun proceeds to viciously kill Kyle. As this is happening, Kaeli is still tapped into her husband (she always is) and knows what is happening, and screams to Evan they must hurry. As they come into the room, Bynun has turned, his fury now locked upon them. “You did this to me!” He charges Evan, who doesn’t stand a chance. Kaeli tries to pull him off, but Bynun turns, his teeth gritted, and slits her throat. Down she goes, gurgling, Bynun standing over her, knives poised in hand, the bodies of his three most cherished friends in front of him. Dragging Kyle from the room, he moves to a precipice and throws his body into the volcanic lake. Then he does the same with Evan. Then he goes back, tears now running down his face, and prepares to do the same with Kaeli, but the rage is beginning to subside, and the realization of what he’s done is beginning to seep in – pictures of their love forcing their way through. He gets her to the edge, and then breaks down weeping, pulling her close as she’s beginning to go cold and collapses to his knees. Now images of Kyle’s kindness prance through his mind, Evan’s good intentions and friendship, and the love he has for his wife. Stop the scene here. Praxedis comes in, sees the blood everywhere, and follows the gruesome trail to where Bynun is, his dead wife in his lap, sitting on the brink of the cliff that leads to the volcanic water below. He asks what happened and runs forward. He grabs Bynun, shaking him, calling him to come out of his seeming trance. Bynun looks up at him and asks, “Why won’t this end? Why isn’t this just a vision of what is to come? Why can’t I break free from this?” Prax asks again what happened, and Bynun reassures him, “None of this is real. It’s all going to be ok. I’ll snap out of it any time now. None of it is real.” Praxedis begins freaking out, and Bynun pops to his feet. “NONE OF THIS IS REAL! STOP IT!” Praxedis asks him, “What have you done? What did you do?” Bynun, infuriated again, his inner beast utterly in command of him, grabs Prax. “This,” he says, and then throws Prax screaming from the ledge into the abyss below. The sound of other footsteps are coming now, shouts and around the corner comes several guards. Bynun faces them, blades in hand, and suddenly gets a flash of how easily he carves through them – and to the loneliness on the other side of them. With the flash comes the realization that all this is real, there is no turning back. It must have been that his emotion was so strong it bypassed his normal vision of the future, where he was able to take out his aggression with no consequences. Tears streaming down his face, he steps back to the edge. The guards move in, but they never have to touch him. He leaps backward off the cliff in an expert backdive, handsAt some point, Bynun winds up in Antuvliaen combat with a girl who is his enemy. Time-falling is exhausting, because while the body is rewound to just before the trauma, the mind and soul are still experiencing a single timeline. It also comes with gross disorientation and confusion because the soul is literally traveling the timeline and having to unravel out of the future body and re-tie into the past body, and it takes a moment to reorient itself to the body’s awareness and body-to-soul information input. While the soul is reorienting itself, there is musle control loss, blindness (while the mind and soul re-access the brain), sickness akin to sever vertigo and the like. Bynun is more practiced at it, because though it hurts him to time-fall, he LOVES seeing what he considers justice being done more than he hates the pain and disorientation, and so he’s become skilled at overcoming the disorientation and he’s built a tolerance for the sickness. The Antuvliaen girl, on the other hand, has only ever time-fallen a few times, and works hard to avoid it because it can be more traumatic to her than the actual eventThis girl is a well-trained Antuvliaen, and considered the most powerful ever born by her peers (the queen?). She is the only one ever (or so they think) who, every time she experiences trauma, finds herself rewound to just before the traumatic event. Does she have willful access to the past and future? Is she able to force the connection open? Is she able to see through Bynun and this girl wind up at odds and a fight ensues. She causes him trauma, and he time-falls, causing Bynun to experience the disorientation that comes with the fall (though she doesn’t know time has rewound). In response, once time has rewound, he causes her trauma before she can cause him trauma, and she time-falls causing the girl to experience the disorientation that comes with the rewind (though Bynun doesn’t know time has rewound). Back and forth a few times until the girl realizes that she’s up against another Antuvliaen…a BOY…who is being wielded by the same power she is. She exclaims, “You have it too!” He replies, “I have what?” “You’re an Antuvliaen?” “I’m a what?” “Time falls back for you, and you get to replay your actions.” Bynun’s eyes bug out. “How…oh my goodness. You too? No.There is a second battle, the girl hell bent on exhausting him by rewinding and rewinding and rewinding until he can stand it no more because she knows that timefalling hurts her, and she thinks she’s got more tolerance for it that he does. Bynun can see, however, that she is getting exhausted, and realizes that, if he continues this battle to its end, she will be broken (fall into a coma actually), he thinks she might die, though he also realizes that he is by far the superior timefaller. He opts out of the battle, turning the other cheek and suffering the tBynun eventually finds himself in a traumatic situation where he must choose between saving only 1 of 2 of his beloved friends – in this way. He finds himself suddenly needed in two places at once. He rushes off to help the friend that is the most likely to fail, and does, indeed, save them from nearly certain doom. Then he learns of the death of his friend, which is so deeply sorrowful that he timefalls, and this time runs off to help them instead, hoping that perhaps the first person he’d helped will survive – only they don’t, and he realizes then that he cannot save them both. He must choose which of them lives, and which of them dies. (Maybe he speaks with them in sorrow and tears, telling first one then, after another timefall, the other, that he can only save one of them – that one of them is going to die, and discovers that both of them are heroes, volunteering to die to save the other, making Bynun’s love for them all that much greater, because each of them are in a situation that is terrifying, and their death will be horrible, and they know it. In fact, the second person he tells he is also able to tell them that the other person, who is dying at that very moment, now no longer aware that they are dying as a hero who chose to die this way to save the second person, chose to die in order to save this person – who is now in anguish and does all in their power to convince Bynun to let them die the horrible death Bynun is born from above, accessing the highest dimension – that of love. “Love is the highest dimension.” Once he has become in-tune with the hardship of others, he is able to access their trauma, and timefall…for them? With them? Is he, with access to the power of the highest dimension, physically able to timefall to where they were before their trauma and save them? During this time her communication skills have broadened, and during a conversation with Kezhenie, she tells her why the humans killed the first Zhandugheen faction. Kezhenie is very concerned, reports the murder to her matriarch who then goes to the patriarch with the news. The patriarch immediately investigates, calling the boy who killed Adrianna’s husband. He grills him in front of the whole camp, and it doesn’t take long for him to break down and admit the murder, telling how he was trying to get his status as man (which he did) but that he couldn’t for the life of him find a wild animal, and being unwilling to disappoint his father, he went into Heaton to get a pig, and got caught. Patriarch asks if he knows he started a war. Child nods, weeping, beating his thighs, screaming in his tortured soul – yes, he knows. Although it’s not unheard of for strucity to be formed using song, because it’s an art form rather than a science, it’s scoffed at as a real thing amongst the educated (except perhaps as a manner of focus – but even then those stuff shirts believe chanting can perform focus, and not the joy of song). Mya, however, is very good at it, though she’s unaware of her gift. She’s always enjoyed singing and music, and sings most everywhere she goes, and as a result, to her, it’s just always been part of her life – both the song and its accompanying strucity. Whilst in captivity with the Sandugan, she loses her singing altogether, but eventually she begins singing again. Kezhenie sees it andGot this documented up through the beginning of August, but havThe jist is this – Mya can sing strucity fluidly, and what she’s untying is the potential power of her anger and sorrow. She doesn’t have to feel it, only have the memory and the ability to feel it for it to be real enough (because her subconscious has it logged, the memory, the feeling, the logic) to provide her an energy source to untie. For those who tie into the song with her (a sort of strucotenancy where all parties share in the experience, not so much reaching into each other, but each of them reaching out to one another and connecting in the ‘space between’) their potential emotional energy, and the potential physical stress that comes with it provide a greater energy source, and so the strucity form that can be worked becomes larger and larger the more join with her. Tying into the song consists of just listening, but is much stronger and more amplified if they sing along. Mya doesn’t realize just how powerful this gift is for a long time. Perhaps regrets deeply the death of Ooluōzh amongst others once she realizes she could probably have sung peace to the attackers. (Those who are utterly dedicated to their rage are untouchabel by this, since it is a mutual acceptance of one another, and tying into the song is reliant on theThis would be awesome to have the Jeslin general run across her while she’s singing shortly after his near death experience, and that’s why he works so hard to protect the humans thereafter. Perhaps even Mya doesn’t see him there, and so, when writing that scene, don’t show the Jeslin, only mention it much later in the series when they’re finally talking with the general. As a result, though he’s loved, his skills are pathetic (because, though he is a natural engineer, he’s a poor mathemetician and not mechanically inclined). He is still able to do, from time to time, spectacular things, enough to keep everyone hopeful, but his bumbles far exceed his successes, and so everybody wonders why Arlot is telling him in the vision that the remnant of the world might be in his haWhen Evan was three years old, he began to show a knack for strucity, though his mother, Aerlynne, always said calling it a knack was akin to calling “a whoppin’ tree but a wee sapling.” That day was the first day the boy was to go into town with his father alone. There had been a bit of a dispute regarding this separation of child and mother, but his father, Haergoff, had put his foot down. “Now darling, thou knowest he can’t hang upon thine apron strings forever. He comes with me today. We’ll be fine.” And so the wagon was loaded with salted ham and bags of dry corn, Evan was fed, dressed and bundled against the laNow, wee Evan was a sharp lad, and though the conversaton regarding the separation from his mother had happened in private, the behavioral queues given by his mama and papa were inescapable. Papa’s face was straight. That meant there had been an argument and papa had won through insistence and not coersion. Mama, who was always kind and loving, was more kind and loving than ever before, encouraging him, eyes moist, near tears, holding him close…something was terribly wrong. He felt his anxiety bPapa took Evan from mama – odd. A tear spilled from Aerlynne’s eye – more odd. Papa turned and began to walk away…and mama waved. Mama waved? She wasn’t coming? Fear shot through the boy with an electric tingle. He turned and saw that they were headed toward the wagon. He turned back again and saw mama, waving with one hand while the other clutched her apron with a brave look on her face, and Evan began to scream. Evan was instantly unconscious and limp as a rag doll. Aerlynne was completely disoriented and violently sick to her stomach, and so utterly startled that she could do little but shout and burble as though she’d just been sucked out of existence in one place only to reappear in another without any warning. Haergoff roared with startlment, and then moved with lightning reflexes to catch his son who had tumbled off his mother’s lap, onto the floor board, and was within an inch of falling beneath the wagon and its iron rimmed wheels, saving him from trageMomentarily blind, her mind stunned and reeling, it took Aerlynne several seconds to get her thoughts to act cohesivley again, and even then, the sense of dream around her was so strong she had a very difficult time adjusting to the idea that this was reality and not simply her having a shocking nightmare. When her husband, now clutching little Evan to his chest, reached for her, she slapped his hand away with another shout, pupils tinyThen there was some shouting on both of their parts as Haergoff tried to figure out what had just happened and Aerlynne tried to grasp reality once again, and some vomiting on her part as the contents of her stomach spontaneously sprayed from her mouth inches from her husband’s face, and some dodging on his part, but soon enough the wagon had been brought to an abrupt halt and both of them were frantically bent over their unconscious sonEvan wasn’t coming out of it, and by that evening, their destination had changed. Rather than riding from where they lived on the outskirts of Murn to the market at Senthrol, which was a two day journey, they rode straight on through to Tylenthael, which was a six day journey. She has seen, whether a vision or a nightmare she isn’t sure, that she is turned into a half-rat and burned at the stake. Rats are considered vile bearers of death. Long ago it was relatively popular for strucity engineers to mix themselves with other animals, doubling their vigor without detracting from their mental prowess. However, it was dubbed abominable (because the man that overthrows Benadam is prejudiced against all forms of mixed species, and the reason Benadam outlawed it is because mixing species winds up with abberations 99% of the time) and a law was made that all abominations/aberrations would be burned at the stake. Needless to say, the queen is terrified by her vision/nightmare, but doesn’t want to tell anyone for fear of having a stigma since it is known that she is descended from the Antuvliaen and if sheYoung Kaeli, also an Antuvliaen descendent (related to the queen), has seen a wicked mage mixing a potion to turn the queen into a half-rat, and has seen the queen burned at the stake. (In the vision, she is creeping along a rooftop and finds herself listening to Azoth talking to himself with glee about how he’s going to change the queen into a rat. She is frozen with fear, knowing that if she is spotted, she’s dead. The vision switches to him sucking the life out of Arlot who knows nothing is going on while she watches, frozen in fear, and then switches to Arlot being accused of the crime and sentenced to death while Kaeli is overwhelmed with guilt, but stays silent.) She doesn’t know she’s Antuvliaen though – doesn’t know it’s a true vision. Kaeli is a rotten little turd of a girl, spoiled and rebellious. She is constantly fleeing from her nanny, and one night flees up and onto the roof tops. As she is creeping along them, she feels an intense sense of energy building, as though she were about to walk into a picture and suddenly realizes she is living her dream. There is Azoth, talking gleefully about turning the queen into a rat. “…merging you with a rat, my queen, since rats are the most repulsive thing in the world to you, not to mention being a symbol (in Kaeric society) of filth. ‘Tis the most offensive thing a man can be called! Long has the law of the land been in place, stating that all aberrations be destroyed, and so you will first suffer the humiliation of being the creature you despise so much, then suffer death at the hands of your beloved king for being an aberration, while Arlot (his rival on the mages council, the queens adviser) will be executed for high treason, leaving ME as the most powerful mage in the kingdom of Kyaur!” She waits terrified, for him to leave, and then sneaks back to her nanny where she cries, but says nothing about what she overheard, terrified he might do the same to her. That night there’s a party of some sort, a ball, and Kaeli must attend. While she’s at the party, Azoth makes a brief appearance. (He’s there to steal a piece of Arlot’s something-or-other that he can use to steal Arlot’s life signature when he makes the potion. Arlot is there to entertain the children.) Azoth leaves his strucity engine behind while he quickly makes his move to steal from Arlot. Kaeli sees him stealing (which takes a bit because of the nature of signature theft. The side-effect, however, of stealing another mages strucity signature is that it comes at great physical cost – the life force spent creating such a spell can be deadly – but the Azoth is confident in his power.) and frets, remembering that her nanny said one day would come where she could do the right thing when it mattered, but she wouldn’t because she was such a bad little girl. Kaeli fiddles with the strucity engine quickly, and then goes – in terror – to sit with the other children. Azoth comes back, filled with utter glee, grabs his strucity engine and returns to his room. He has to finish the potion tonight or he will miss his one chance at this. The strucity engine runs out, Azoth quickly taps into himself to create the potion and succeeds, but is exhausted – more exhausted than he has ever been in his life. He must though, get the potion in the queen tonight or he misses his window of opportunity. While in the queen’s quarters, his foolish overextension brings a heart attack upon him, and he dies quietly in her bedroom with the potion still claspeThe righteous mage – Arlot – that sides with the queen has Evan as his apprentice. Arlot using strucotenancy goes into her mind in order to get the personality print off the boy in the auspication so that he can go and find him early on. After finding Evan, he then seeks for the book, but there is none in his library that meets the description – a book bound in barley sack cloth (or whatever you call that stuff). Somewhere along the way some treasured strucity book? Or whatever you’d like it to be, is damaged horribly, and Evan? Damaged it? Decides to fix it, but he’s really young, so he wraps it in rouch sack cloth? (In the past, Arlot loved the child so much that he couldn’t bear to re-wrap the book, but this time around, since Arlot is aware of the book and its wrapping, when he sees that Evan has wrapped it, and realizes this is the book that he was giving the boy, the most valuable book – a surprise even to him that this book is so valuable, since he didn’t know it’s value, but once he realizes what booThis must go in book – Evan’s epilogue is dependent on it, and has already been written. Evan is trying to get him back, working on a strucity form powerful enough to teleport Prax back to Erets Davar. It works, but his focus is so powerful (aided by the strucity well) that he brings not only Prax but all the captives that have begun an uprising and are being slaughtered. The result is that he is killed, unties his essence, dies. Kezhenie, Evan's love, finds him there and remembers the potion taken from the queen so long ago. She runs and grabs it, brings it back to where Evan is lying, and mixes him with his pet ferret while at the same time working to wound share. This normally goes horrifically wrong, (part of why they're known as abominations), but Kezhenie's natural gift for wound and pain sharing make her a perfect conduit for the mixing of the races. What happens instead is that, due to using the potion, she is mixed with them at the same time. Evan's appelative is strong as is Kezhenie's, much stronger than the ferrets, so they both retain their bodies and the ferret is physically utterly tied into them (making it appear as if it disappears, when in fact it is mixed at the cellular and atomic level with them). As Kezhenie reaches into Evan, while she's sharing, his intuitiveness for being in touch with the way the world works is shared by her, though she may be utterly unaware of it. She's actually trying to tie into him and willfully risking sacrificing her own life to save him, which causes her focus to be so utterly complete that she's unaware that the potion, which is designed to mix appelatives, is mixing with her as well. Evan comes back, but now as a permanent mixture of him and his ferret, diminuative in stIt goes like this. Azoth, as the master of the Preceptory, is well practiced at fiddling with appelatives, as are his students under him. It is why he's so gifted at mixing the potion. However, the reality is, he's never mixed a potion that actually worked properly before, always creating monstrosities. (He's a very gifted strucitor – it's why he's visir to the king.) He doesn't care if the queen is turned into a monstrosity though – and especially with the ability to steal Arlot's appelative, something Arlot doesn't even know is possible, which is why he's so utterly horrified when the potion is found, because it's proof positive that he is, in fact, guilty of having made the potion. Preach then, that the potion is clearly going to make an abberation. (Kezhenie, however, feels that she can guide the process. When mixing the ferret and Evan, however, she doesn't have her talisman with her, and so is actively working to untie herself. This is why she utterly discards herself. However, Erets Dabar is a heart of strucity, and since the strucity form she's working is far less consumptive than what Evan has just done, she's completely not untied, though she believes she'll Azoth is descended from the Master of the Preceptory, and is raised with hatred for the conlegium and a deep desire to see it utterly destroyed.
